On the 2^nd of February 2017, people around the world are celebrating the freedom of expression of their will through democratic elections – the 12^th Edition of the Global Elections Day.

On this occasion, Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova address its greetings and the best thoughts of happiness, prosperity and peace to the Members and Secretariat of the Association of European Election Officials (ACEEEO), citizens and all institutions involved in electoral process from member states.

On this day we would like to focus our attention to the importance of elections, their role and efforts made and steps to be undertaken, in order to guarantee a free, fair and trustworthy electoral process.

The establishment of universal and equal suffrage, direct and secret voting represent one of the most important values and achievements of humanity, which led to the creation of modern societies and sovereign states. Elections represent the heart of democracy, the only legitimate instrument of the citizens used for the establishment of legitimate governments and oversee their activity. Also, elections are a test of democracy that may increase the credibility of the country in relations with foreign partners.

Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova highly appreciates the fruitful relations established between our institutions, oriented to the guarantee of the rights to elect and be elected to every citizens, in line with international standards and best practices. We would like to express our belief that our good collaboration will continue to strengthen.
